Ivan sees the logic in Carideth'swords, but explains that he was not
necessarily meaning to do all these things at once (he just wanted to be
nice to the DM for once and plan ahead :) ). Nevertheless, they proceed
as planned, alternating searching and guarding.

Ivan's and Carideth's search yields six gold crowns in the human's
backpack. He then walks over to the elven fighter, grips the sword
hadle, and pulls. The handle comes flying off and the blade remains
firmly implanted in the dead elf's chest. Disgusted, Ivan throws down
what he has of the cheap weapon and decides not to take it. Instead, he
walks over to the mace, pries the fingers of its handle, and examines
it. It appears to him to be in very poor condition, and would hardly
fetch a silver piece, thus making it unwise to lug it around these
passageways with him. He offers anyone else to take the broken sword or
the mace.

They oth do a bit of searching around the nearby walls, floors, and
ceiling, but do not find anything out of the ordinary. From what you can
see of this area, it looks as if the two mutilated bodies were the
attackers (or at least part of the attack force).Further inspection by
Malcolm reveals that they were quite possibly undead. There are several
tracks partially covered with dust, and footsteps lead in all four
directions. There are at least two different sets of footprints, both
made by boots, but oe slightly larger than the other. The smaller set
has footprints going in both directions (i.e. whoever made them walked
into this room from the steps, proceeded northward down the corridor,
and at some point came back and walked back up the steps). Sice you've
disturbed all the dust before the stairs, you cannot determine where the
footsteps lead after there.

The other set of footprints is only in one direction. They start from
the passage to the east and continue through to the passage in the wet.
You notice that these footprints seem to be disorderly and irregular, as
if whoever made them was limping or shuffling or something.

Both sets of footprints were made before, during, or shortly after the
battle, since you cannot determine which ons were more recent. They
were all made in about the same time period. All the footprints stop
within a few feet down their respective corridors; evidently there was
not enough dust down the corridors to produce any destination for the
impressions. It's only this room that seems to be particularly plagued
with dust.
