Careful not to let your gazes slip from the spider, you slowly back away and
attempt to block the two vents in the room with weapons and shields. The best
you can do is a temporary slowing of the wind, but at the rate the air is
flowing, it would be impossible to totally staunch the draft, and would take
great strength to even keep it slowed as it is now. The spider watches you
intently..

You're certainly far enough from the spider to hit it with missle weapons and
then change to melee weapons. It doesn't seem to be moving, either, other than
the eager rubbing of its mandibles together, which produces a stick resin that
drips from its mouth to the floor..

A quick check by Malcolm reveals that neither door is locked.. you don't know
how fast the spider can move, but at your best guess you're far enough away to
bolt from the room without it getting a chance to attack you.

Suddenly, you hear a scraping sound coming from the door you entered from. It
sounds as if someone (or someTHING) has placed three or four things on the
other side of the door (possibly sticks) and is dragging them back down to the
floor again. The sound repeats again in a few moments.
