Malcolm steps back, obviously taken back by Carideth's sudden outburst. He
then pauses as he carefully phrases what he is about to say. "I realize that
we may have a conflict in our own individual concepts of what is right and
what is wrong, but can we at least agree amongst ourselves that we are
crusading in the name of good?"
Unfortunately, Carideth has no time to answer the question right now.
Everybody throws any excess equipment into the back of the wagon, and then
climb in themselves, with the exception of Carideth, Malcolm, and Ruinad, who
ride or lead their animals out of town as fast as possible. The gladiator
seems to be a very accomplished charioteer, and the rest of you can barely
keep up with him, especially Malcolm, who is desperately trying to coax his
mule into a galloping speed. Eventually becoming frustrated, he rips off the
packs, tosses them into the speeding cart, and then runs up and hops in
himself, where he sits rather dejectedly on top of a sack of elven rations as
he watches his mule wander off into the wilderness.
After over half an hour of racing the cart down south down the road, the
gladiator finally slows down to a brisk trot as you near the place where the
road makes a sharp turn to the left. The man signals the two riders to come
closer, and the three of you in the wagon shift over to the front to hear what
the man has to say.
