"What?" screams the gnome, hearing the insults. This time, however, the other
gnomes do not seem so happy, and they valiantly take up their arms and stand
defiently behind their leader.
"I thought the treaty quite clearly stated that YOU were not to come down here
AT ALL! No gnome in these parts has been above ground for hundreds of years!
Have you humans lost all sense of morality?" he cries.
"Ahem," interrupts a gnome behind him. The leader looks too flustered to stop
him from speaking, so he proceeds. "Uh, you really oughn't put us down like
that, or I'm afraid we're going to have to take you in for more than
questioning. Insulting the captain of the royal guard is a very serious
offence. Is there something wrong with the treaty we just handed you?" he asks
politely. "Can you not read it? I assure you, it is quite clearly printed in
black and white all the regulations regarding human underground travel.."
"SHUT UP!" screams the leader. "These men, by the sounds of it, all work for
the forces of EVIL! No respect for gnomes! Hmph!"
The gnome behind him turns up his palms and shrugs when the leader is not
looking. He seems to be mouthing some words to you, but in this light and due
to the fact that all gnomes (including this one) have enormous beards, it is
impossible to tell what he's trying to say.
The leader pauses in one last attempt to allow you to respond. "Well?" he
pants. "COMING?"
Again, the same gnome that tried to talk to him once or twice before comes up
again and tries to whisper something in the leader's ear, but the leader is so
agitated that he angrily pushes him away.
