"You're going to steal the horses but you think it's unethical to
steal the wagon? Carideth, you never cease to amaze me," sighs Malcolm.
"Thanks for your offer to help me find my mule, but I doubt we'll be able to
get it.. unless you can teleport it over here. It must be miles up the road! I
had to abandon it soon after we left the town. Besides, those slave traders
are probably already searching this way.. no doubt they've already taken the
mule and done some horrible thing to it.."
Borack and Ivan begin removing the equipment from the wagon. After
it's all out, it is found that there seems to be too much of Malcolm's stuff
to carry. He considers leaving behind most of the excess food he brought..
that is, unless someone has a better idea. Other than that, nothing seems to
be missing or broken. The sun is just beginning to set, but you've a good
three hours or so of light in which to travel, if you choose to do so.
"I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm rather exhausted,"
remarks Malcolm. Borack agrees. "What say we move on down the road a bit, and
then set up camp a little ways off? Far enough so that we won't be seen or
heard, should these slavers decide to search for us by night. Then we'll be
able to get an early start on the morrow. Perhaps Ivan can tell us a thing or
two about Htron."
Ruinad walks over to the horses on the cart and unhitches them.
Leading them gently by the necks, he walks them over to a small pond on the
north side of the road and waters the horses. He takes a look down the road
and shouts an observation that the road is very straight and goes on as far as
the eye can see, and that it appears there is a marshy region on the north
side of the road for quite a ways as well. After the horses have had their
fill, he walks back to the rest of you and says, "These horses look very
hungry. Did you happen to bring any food for them, Ivan?"
Ivan shakes his head sorrowfully. "I'm afraid not.. I don't think my
former masters have even bother to feed them in the past couple of days. You'd
best lead them over on the south side of the road to graze a bit."
Obediently, the half-elf mage takes the horses over to a grassy field
and lets them munch on the grass. "I'm rather excited about this whole thing..
I don't think I could sleep even if I tried! If we're going to make camp, as
Borack suggested, I wouldn't mind taking the first watch."
