Malcolm, seeing Carideth's remarkable idea, proceeds to the same tree,
it being the only one in the area, and props himself against it and promptly
falls asleep as well. Those of you that remain awake proceed to begin moving
the equipment into some dense bushes several hundred feet from the road. You
then find a sheltered clearing and set up a small cookfire. Ruinad takes out
some pots from his saddle bags, and begins preparing some deer sausage. Ivan
disappears with his dog, explaining they'll hunt for pheasant or rabbit and
that they'll be back shortly.
The smell of simmering deer sausage wakes up Malcolm and Carideth, who
decide it would be best to push the wagon farther up the road so as to
minimize the risks of the slavers finding their camp near the wagon. Luckily,
the road seems rather abandoned tonight and nobody sees or hears any sign of
the camp.
By now, it is beginning to get quite dark. Ivan returns, empty-handed,
but you are all quite content with munching on Ruinad's sausages for now,
supplemented with a little water from your waterskins and a few mouthfulls of
Malcolm's elven cakes. You chatter and converse late into the night, nearly
forgetting your plan to rise early the next morning. But still, the
conversation is rather important. It has to do with the distribution of
treasure, and the combat plans.
The problem you seem to be having with the treasure is exactly how to
divide up non-monetary treasure, such as gems, weapons, and magical items.
Borack also brings up the fact that the treasure should be transported amongst
all of you, because if only one person had all the treasure and he was robbed,
killed, or lost, the treasure would be gone. Malcolm proposes that the mages
and priests should carry magical items and money, and the thieves and warriors
should carry weapons and miscellaneous treasure.
"Speaking of treasure," Malcolm says, "I don't see how you expect to
profit from any adventure, Carideth. Would not stealing from a monster that
you kill constitute a violation of your morals? Would not taking treasure from
a seemingly uninhabited dungeon not do the same?"
Ivan also has some interesting points to bring up. He suggests an
organized form of combat. He humbly admits that he is somewhat of an expert on
combat tactics, and that he would be most happy to be fill a leader role when
it comes to combat situations, that is, placing each person in the most
strategic position, and recommending attack maneuvers when faced with
different situations.
